Gene Wilder's family has announced to The Associated Press that he has tragically passed away.
Wilder's nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman said he died late Sunday of complications from Alzheimer’s disease at his home in Stamford, Connecticut.
His career in acting first saw him land prominent roles in "The Producers," "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein."
Later he teamed with comedian Richard Pryor for a string of films including "See No Evil, Hear No Evil."
Most people wold remember him best as the reclusive, eccentric chocolatier in the title role of 1971’s “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.”
