The boy seriously injured in an Otago rowing accident will be transferred to Christchurch hospital today for specialist treatment.

The Otago Boys High School student was cut on the arm yesterday when his rowing team's skiff was hit by a powerboat driven by their coach.

Two other students were hospitalised following the crash but have since been discharged.

In an update on the school's Facebook page senior management thanked the fellow students and parents who came to the aid of the group immediately after the incident.

Worksafe and Maritime New Zealand are investigating.
