Policing in this country is coming under the spotlight today.

The Police Association is holding its 79th annual conference in Wellington, with a theme this year of Leading Change.

It'll focus on the changes taking place as police and society adapt to global economic, social and technological changes.

The new Booze Bus Biometrics will be officially launched, allowing police to confirm within minutes the identities of people they intend to charge with drink-driving offences, by electronically scanning fingerprints and taking digital photographs.

And Tauranga police officer, Senior Constable Deane O'Connor, will be awarded the National Bravery Award after he leapt into Tauranga Harbour in the middle of the night to save a crash survivor last year.
