A Singapore Airlines pilot has been criticised for his lapse in judgement over a crash which left two passengers injured.

Benjamin Younghau Wu's been suspended from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay $20,000 reparation over the collision near Rolleston.

Two passengers who weren't wearing seat belts suffered serious injuries and remain in hospital.

In Christchurch District Court, Judge Stephen O'Driscoll told Wu his actions affected everyone on the road that day.

"Failed to obey a simple road rule. Not the first to have done that, unfortunately won't be the last. A lapse of concentration on your part that had actual consequences."

The Defence Counsel explained Wu failed to see a stop sign and struggled with a blind spot in the road.
