The painful food poisoning bug yersinia psuedo tuberculosis has hit the Waikato region, with six confirmed cases.
There are now 124 confirmed cases of the stomach bug across the country.
The Ministry of Primary Industries hasn't identified the food source of the illness, but packaged carrots and lettuce are among the suspects.
Waikato Medical Officer of Health Dr Anita Bell says only one person has been hospitalised in the region with the illness.
She says they've had six cases so far, the symptoms seem to be quite severe stomach pain mimicking appendicitis.
