Christchurch police say naming and shaming people on social media is not the way to deal with crimes in the community.
Over 1100 people liked the "New Brighton Trouble Makers" page which posted pictures of young people who have been allegedly causing trouble in suburb.
The page has now been taken down.
Acting Senior Sergeant Dave Robertson from New Brighton police says making unproven claims on social media just fuels a mob mentality.
"Most people have relevant and useful information relating to offences that are committed. The appropriate action is to report them to the police not to go onto a Facebook page and effectively make random assertions based on innuendo and rumour."
