Last week Bono celebrated his 60th birthday, and in doing so he released a playlist of '60 songs that saved my life'.
One of the songs on that list was Elton John's 'Daniel', written by Elton and legendary songwriter Bernie Taupin.
In the letter which was posted to Twitter, Bono recounts the first time he heard the classic song from 1973, even though he may not have fully understood the song's intended meaning.
In the last week, Bono has made an effort to write letters to all artists which feature on his 60 song playlist to describe the way their music has changed him.
Elton replied to Bono's message, with a small message of his own.
So far he has written to many artists, including Sinead O'Connor, and the estates of Prince and David Bowie.
